Elected Mayor of the Village in 1981 and resident of Woodridge since 1968. Mayor Murphy's tenure on the Village Board includes two terms as elected trustee in 1973 and 1977. Mayor Murphy has been involved with numerous organizations during his time in office. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities and currently serves on the Advisory Council. Mayor Murphy is a Past President of the Illinois Municipal League and is currently on the Board of Directors. He served two terms as President of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and is currently on the Board of Directors. Mayor Murphy serves as Vice Chairman of the Illinois International Port District and is a Commissioner on the DuPage Water Commission. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Woodridge Community Pantry and is a Board Member for Giant Steps Illinois and the Autism Center for Excellence, a school and community of support and education for families touched by autism.
Mayor Murphy retired from the Woodridge School District as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and previously served as a Principal at Goodrich School and Edgewood School in the District. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have four children. Mayor Murphy lists some of his driving interests as family, gardening, reading and government.
