Permit Submittal Requirements

Room additions, decks, patios, fences, driveways, swimming pools/hot tubs and accessory structures:
A completed permit application must include name, address & telephone number of general contractor and subcontractors. Two copies of a Plat of Survey of the lot showing location of construction. Two sets of plans/drawings, specifications and calculations meeting architectural, mechanical, structural & electrical requirements of Building Code. A Certificate of insurance, bonds and/or licenses.

General Contractors
Insurance:  All contractors who use the streets or other public property shall file with the Village, prior to the issuance of a building permit, a Certificate of Insurance with coverage’s as follows:

1. Public liability insurance for one (1) person in the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) and for one (1) accident in the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000) or a combined single limit of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000).

2. Property damage insurance in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000) limited to not less than Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) for each accident.

Electrical
A completed permit application must include the name, address & telephone number of the electrical contractor. Two sets of plans/drawings meeting electrical requirements of Building Code. A $10,000 surety bond & a copy of electrical license.

Plumbing
A completed permit application must include the name, address & telephone number of the plumbing contractor. Two sets of plans/drawings meeting plumbing requirements of Building Code. All plumbing contractors must show Certification from the State of Illinois.  A copy of your State of Illinois or Chicago License with picture.

All plumbing contractors must be licensed in accordance with State statutes

Water and Sewer Repair or Installation
A completed permit application must include the name, address & telephone number of the sewer contractor.

Insurance: Every person desiring to engage in the business of making any sewer and/or water installation in the Village shall file with the Village a Certificate of Insurance with coverage’s as follows:

1. Public liability insurance for one person in the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) and for one accident in the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000), or a combined single limit of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000).

2. Property damage insurance in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000) limited to not less than Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) for each accident.

Surety Company Bond payable to the Village in the penal sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000). Must read: Water / Sewer and Excavator Contractor.  This is the only wording that will be accepted by the Village.

Roofs
A completed permit application must include the name, address & telephone number of roofing contractor. If a roofing contractor is performing the work, a copy of the roofer’s Illinois State License must be on file with the Building & Zoning Department or must be submitted with permit application.

Lawn Sprinklers
A completed permit application must include the name, address & telephone number of the contractor doing the work, $10,000 surety bond, and state plumbing license. Two copies of a Plat of Survey of the lot showing the proposed location of all sprinkler heads on the property should be provided. If sprinkler heads are being placed in the parkway, a "Covenant Running with the Land" form must be filed with DuPage County waiving the Village of Woodridge of all liability. A photocopy of the Covenant showing the recorded number must be submitted with the permit application.

Building Permits 
Residents should be aware of several building permit requirements before alterations or additions are made to property. The Village of Woodridge requires permits for such alterations/additions as: patios, decks driveways, roofs, sheds, swimming pools, fences, lawn sprinkler systems, remodeling, and garages.

Zoning Board of Appeals 
The function of the Zoning Board of Appeals is to hear and decide cases involving appeals of zoning decisions and applications for variance concerning the interpretation of zoning ordinances.
